COVID-19 deaths have exhausted Nashville's budget for indigent burials

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Nashville has already used up its annual budget for the burial of indigent residents thanks to coronavirus.

WTVF-TV quotes Metro Indigent Burial and Cremation Services Manager Carol Wilson saying she’s concerned bodies may begin backing up in the city morgue.

Thestation says Mayor John Cooper included $300,000 for indigent burials in his recent request to the governor for additional pandemic relief funds. The governor this past week declined that request.

Gov. Lee on Thursday chided the mayor for the way Nashville has spent its federal coronavirus aid. He urged the mayor to instead spend more supporting hard hit small businesses.
