Gov. Lee berates district attorney who refuses to enforce new Tennessee abortion law

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk has declined to enforce an abortion law passed this year by the Tennessee legislature.

The new law requires abortion providers to inform women that chemical abortions may be reversible half way through the two-drug process.

In a court filing this week Funk calls the law unconstitutional. He writes “I will not prosecute any woman who chooses to have a medical procedure to terminate a pregnancy or any medical doctor who performs this procedure.”

Gov. Bill Lee championed the abortion bill during this year’s legislative session. The governor fired back at Funk yesterday, posting to social media “A district attorney purposefully disregarding current, duly enacted laws by the legislature is a grave matter that threatens our justice system.”
