NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- There’s been a small evolution in Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s thinking about mandatory face mask orders.
This past week the White House Coronavirus Task Force reportedly urged Lee to issue a statewide mask order. However, the governor has consistently resisted issuing any such mandate saying mask use should be a “personal choice.”
Meanwhile, the Tennessean quotes Gov. Lee telling reporters Tuesday that he’s now urging county mayors to impose their own mandatory mask orders in areas where new COVID-19 infections are surging. Lee last week announced he would be extending the executive order giving county mayors that authority through the end of the year.
Lee also announced on Tuesday the launch of a new PR campaign promoting mask use and other virus prevention guidelines.
