NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) — Tennessee Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey has revealed more details about the state’s plan to distribute soon to be released COVID-19 vaccines.
During a press conference Tuesday, Dr. Piercey said that the state is prepared to begin distribution within 48 hours of a vaccine’s availability.
She noted, however, that supplies will initially be limited. Piercey said the state plan calls for health care workers and first responders to be the first immunized against the virus.
According to Dr. Piercey, a vaccine may not be available to the general public before spring.
She also noted Tennessee no longer plans to put new vaccines through a state approval process. Earlier this year, Piercey insisted the state would need to conduct its own certification process for any new vaccine.
