Nashville Police begin mask enforcement with a citation blitz downtown on Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  -- Nashville Police will on Wednesday begin enforcement of a mandatory mask order, more than two weeks after health officials put the pandemic measure in place.

The mask order was issued in an effort to slow a recent surge in COVID-19 cases that has led to an all-time high number of new infections.

In a press statement, MNPD says it will begin enforcement with a hard push in Music City’s entertainment district downtown.

Metro says officers will be stationed along both sides of Broadway today to issue $50 civil citations to anyone not wearing a mask.

Persons refusing to accept the citation will be charged with a misdemeanor.

Health officials told reporters Tuesday they’ve already issued 48 mask citations to Nashville businesses found out of compliance.
