(Mike Osborne) -- There has been another troubling development concerning the now closed Interstate 40 bridge over the Mississippi at Memphis.
The Commercial Appeal on Wednesday published a kayaker’s photo taken from the river looking up at the span that appears to show a crack forming on a bridge support beam back in 2016.
The newspaper says it has confirmed the date the photo was taken using meta-data embedded in the picture.
If the iamge proves authentic, it would mean that the compromised support went unnoticed for at least five years.
The photo has now been forwarded to both the Arkansas and Tennessee Departments of Transportation.
