Tennessee enjoying unusual drop in summer gasoline prices

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (OSBORNE)  --  Fuel costs are dropping across Tennessee and nationwide, bucking the usual summertime trend toward higher prices at the pump.

Triple A says the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has fallen 26 cents in the past year, 18 cents in the past month.

Gas prices normally rise in the summer as more drivers take to the nation’s highways, but Triple A’s Megan Cooper says this year producers have more fuel on hand.

Cooper says the only dark cloud on the fuel-price-horizon is the threat of conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

“If that continues to escalate that could potentially affect the prices through the rest of the summer, but we’ll just have to wait and see on that.”

Triple A now tracks daily average fuel prices in all 95 Tennessee counties.
