MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- WMOT News is asking news makers from across the political spectrum to comment on the just ended 107th Tennessee General Assembly. Today the views of State Democratic Party Communications Director Brandon Puttbrese.
While this legislative session was the first in decades that Tennessee Democrats found themselves in the minority, Puttbrese says the Party did enjoy some legislative victories.
“An investment in the West Tennessee Jobs Megasite; also in unemployment benefits for trailing military spouses, as-well-as the Tennessee Works Act; which may be the most prominent piece of jobs legislation to come out of the 107th General Assembly.”
Puttbrese also counts as a success Democrats being able to, as he puts, “bottle up” a number of Republican led legislative initiatives, including the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
“I think the 107th General Assembly will be remembered for all of the embarrassing news clips on national television, and all of these divisive social agenda items that don’t create jobs and hurt our families.”
Puttbrese says he thinks the 107th General Assembly will still be fresh in voter’s minds when they go to the polls later this year.
