RUCO child revived twice using CPR, after authorities say the infant was assaulted by his father

RCSO

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Sheriff’s deputies were involved in the dramatic rescue and resuscitation of a Rutherford County child this week.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to an address near Christiana on Tuesday about a man who had stripped and left his clothes in the street.

A second call came in as officers responded about a child being assaulted.

Deputies say they arrive at a Farmbrook Ct. home to find 37-year-old Dewayne Watts laying on top of his two-month-old son with his hands around the child’s throat. Deputies were able to wrestle Watts under control and rescue the infant.

Officers used CPR to revive the child once, then a second time before EMT’s arrived on the scene. The boy was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center and is said to be recovering.

Watts is facing attempted murder and abuse charges. He’s being held on a $306,000 bond.
