Nashville COVID-19 vaccination eligibility drops to 65, many health restrictions eased

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --   Nashville’s struggle against COVID-19 has begun to show promise and progress.

Early Friday morning Metro began accepting coronavirus vaccination registrations from residents between the ages of 65 and 70 for the first time. Mayor John Cooper announced eligibility for the new age group on Thursday.

Residents can register by calling the city’s pandemic hotline at 615-862-7777. They can also register online by clicking on the big yellow box found at COVID-19.Nashville.gov.

In a sign of further progress, Nashville will on Monday ease more of its COVID-19 restrictions. The move comes in response to falling new infection rates and the expansion of the city’s vaccination campaign.

Beginning Monday, outdoor gatherings can be increased from groups of eight to groups of 25. Percentage capacity restrictions will be lifted entirely for restaurants, museums and other attractions.

Large events will grow from 500 maximum attendance to 1,000 attendees with health department permission. Weddings can accommodate 125 people, up from 75 attendees.
