Metro Nashville murders spiked 34 percent in 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne )  --  The number of reported crimes fell last year across Metro Nashville, but nearly every category of major crime spiked sharply higher.

The total number of crimes reported to Metro Police fell last year by roughly four percent.

However, murders committed in the city jumped 34 percent higher. Eighty-four murders were committed in 2019. This past year 113 murders were investigated.

Aggravated assault, arson, burglary and car thefts were all higher. The number of robberies rose a staggering 305 percent.

The only major crime categories to fall year-over-year in Metro were rape and illegal drug violations.
