NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) Nashville Congressman Jim Cooper was among the House Oversight Committee Democrats grilling U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Monday.
DeJoy was named to the post by President Donald Trump less than three months ago. Democrats say the reforms he’s undertaken since have significantly disrupted mail service and could threaten the integrity of the upcoming presidential election.
Rep. Cooper peppered DeJoy with questions about his work on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and business interests that could constitute a conflict of interest with his Postal Service duties.
Cooper ended his questioning by asking DeJoy if his backup plan was to be, “pardoned like Roger Stone.” Calling the question insulting, DeJoy declined to answer.
A combative DeJoy repeatedly asserted that he is "not engaged in sabotaging the election.”
Committee Republicans insisted Democratic concerns are overblown.
