Nash. Council to consider 3 license plate reader proposals Tuesday, one on final reading

nashville.gov

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  The Metro Nashville Council will on Tuesday night consider three ordinances that would authorize the city’s use of license plate readers.

The cameras can read the license plate numbers on passing vehicles and would record date, time, direction and speed.

Two ordinances will be debated on their second of three readings Monday. One would authorize the installation of plate readers in Metro police cruisers. The other would permit readers on city streets.

A third ordinance is up for its final reading ahead of passage Monday evening. That ordinance would allow plate reader data to be used to prosecute reckless drivers.

You can read the full text of each proposed ordinance at the following links: BLM2020-581, BLM2020-582, and BLM2020-494.
