NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Metro Nashville Police are making fewer arrests as the pandemic grows.
Metro Chief of Police Steve Anderson is asking officers to use “maximum” discretion when making arrests. Anderson wants to reduce the number of inmates being booked into the county jail to reduce the chance of inmates being exposed to the virus.
Chief Anderson is asking officers to use state citations in place of arrest for misdemeanor offenses. People getting a citation will be given a future date to show up at the jail for booking.
The Chief noted that arrests will continue in cases of domestic assault.
