Rutherford County to renew mask mandate as COVID-19 infections surge

cdc.gov

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Rutherford County will reinstate its mandatory mask order beginning Wednesday night.

County Mayor Bill Ketron said in a press statement Monday that the recent spike in new COVID-19 cases prompted the move. Ketron notes that there are “conflicting opinions” about masks, but concludes there is “overwhelming evidence” that they work in combination with other measures.

Williamson, Sumner and Wilson counties have also revived their mask mandates in recent days.

The executive order giving county mayors the authority to impose mask mandates expires later this week, but Gov. Bill Lee has promised to extend the order through the end of the year.
