NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Every member of Tennessee’s Congressional delegation strongly condemned Wednesday’s mob violence in the U.S. Capitol, but several of the state’s GOP representatives remained firm in their resolve to challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s November victory.

Prior to the assault by supporters of President Donald Trump, Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn planned to oppose the certification of Biden’s win. But after  Wednesday afternoon’s mob violence, Blackburn called the riot a “crime,” and concluded she would “vote to support certifying the Electoral College results.”

East Tennessee Rep. Chuck Fleischmann labeled the violence “an affront to our Republic.” But insisted he would still oppose Biden’s Electoral College certification, citing what he called “irregularities” in the 2020 election.

Newly elected Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty joined senior Senator Blackburn in confirming the Electoral College ballots. However, all six of his Tennessee GOP House colleagues joined Rep. Fleischmann in voting to challenge the Biden election victory.

The final vote to certify the Electoral College ballots passed by a large and strongly bi-partisan margin.
