NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Tennessee’s COVID-19 numbers fell sharply this past week, but remain distressingly high.
The number of new infections reported during the week that ended Saturday fell to just under 51,000 cases. That represents a 24 percent drop over the previous week.
The number of fatalities fell 31 percent. A total of 426 Tennesseans died of COVID related complications over the past seven days.
The number hospitalized over the past week fell 42 percent. Hospital capacity had risen to 14 percent as of Monday morning.
However, health officials warn another spike is likely early in the new year as a result of Christmas and New Year’s gatherings.
